Rabat – The upcoming Fez World Festival of Sacred Music was in the spotlight during a meeting that took place this Thursday in Madrid, Spain.

In a presentation, the organizer of the festival and President of Fondation Esprit de Fes (Fez Spirit Foundation) Abderrafie Zouiten, and, said that this year’s program will feature renowned artistic troupes from over 15 countries.

Themed “Architecture and the Sacred,” the 26th Fez Festival of World Sacred Music will take place at Bab El Makina in Fez, between June 9 to 12.

The festival’s program includes a variety of shows on themes ranging from architecture to religion, to shed light on how people from different beliefs use architecture to communicate their ongoing quest for the sacred, by exploring a portion of the world’s most unique religious constructions.

Zouiten noted that the festival will take festival-goers around the world, starting from Fez to Jerusalem, the Tibet region in East Asia, India’s Taj Mahal, the cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris, and Casablanca’s Hassan II Mosque.

Moroccan Ambassador to Spain Karima Benyaich said that this ceremony renews Morocco and Spain’s cultural agenda, testifying to the two countries’ decades-old diplomatic and cordial relations.

The Moroccan diplomat noted that Morocco-Spain ties are “strong and indispensable,” calling for more cultural initiatives to be established, in order to connect artists and youth and create a space for them to exchange ideas and aspirations.

An audience composed of political, cultural, sports, and arts representatives as well Moroccan residents in Madrid screened an institutional film of Fez’s festival.

Moroccan artist Marouane Hajji and the Spanish flamenco troupe “Jesus Mendez” also performed at the ceremony.
