Rabat – Recently, Qatari media reported on the Gulf country’s interest to benefit from Morocco’s expertise in the field of security for a successful 2022 World Cup.
Abdellatif Hammouchi, Morocco’s General Director of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST) held a series of meetings with senior Qatari officials on Wednesday.
The Qatari Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani received Hammouchi on the sidelines of the International Exhibition for Internal Security and Civil Defense (MILIPOL 2022).
He also held a meeting with Saad bin Jassem Al Khulaifi, the Director of Qatari Public Security to discuss bilateral cooperation, particularly means to develop security collaboration.
Qatar will host the international event, which will kick off in November, with the participation of Morocco’s national football team.
In 2020, Morocco’s government offered to provide Qatar with human and logistical assistance for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Morocco’s Interior Ministry emphasized the North African country’s readiness to assist Qatar, emphasizing that the offer is in line with the strategic relations between the two countries.
Morocco maintains good diplomatic relations with Qatar. The two countries cooperate in different fields, including trade.
Morocco and Qatar’s trade volume increased significantly between 2017 and 2021.
The trade grew from $90 million to $207 million, representing a 130% increase over four years.
The number of Moroccan businesses operating in Qatar is also increasing. As of 2022, the Gulf country hosts 80 Moroccan companies active in different sectors, including hospitality, trade, and fashion.
Qatar is also among a lengthy list of countries that support Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over Western Sahara.
