Rabat – Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech has been labeled as a potential target for fellow English club Manchester United, according to Manchester Evening News. His current London club are reportedly open to receiving offers for the Moroccan footballer.
Ziyech has registered 8 goals and 6 assists this season. However, other Chelsea forwards have been preferred starters for manager Thomas Tuchel this season.
A move to Manchester United would see the Moroccan play under former manager Erik Ten Hag, who was recently appointed as manager in April. The winger was coached by Ten Hag at Dutch club Ajax, where he featured in 112 league games. Ziyech was an important part of the Ajax team who famously reached the 2019 Champions League semi-finals.
The transfer rumors come days after Ziyech announced he would not return to the Moroccan national team whilst manager Vahid Halilhodzic remains in charge. Earlier this month, fans welcomed the return of Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui to the Moroccan team. However, it seems that the Chelsea winger’s return is not likely before the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
Both players had pulled out from the national team last year after disagreements with Halilhodzic.
A move for Ziyech to Manchester United would be highly important for both parties. The winger has at times struggled to make an impact at Chelsea and has not been a regular name in the match day starting-11.
Erik Ten Hag’s new club are also seeking improvement this summer, after a poor season saw them finish in 6th place with 58 points. This was the club’s worst-ever points tally in Premier League history.
During his two years at Chelsea, Ziyech has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Club. He is currently valued at 32 million Euros.
