Rabat – The Moroccan para-athletics delegation is set to participate in the Paris Grand Prix on June 9-10.
The Moroccan delegation will consist of 15 people including eight athletes, three coaches, and one assistant as well as the president and secretary-general of the Moroccan Royal Federation of Sports for Persons with Disabilities.
The Moroccan athletes selected for the international competition are Ayoub Sadni, Hind Fouira, Saida Amoudi, Youssra Karim, Hayat El Garaa, Zakaria Derhem, and Azeddine Nouiri.
Coaches Mohamed Sindaoui, Abdelouahab Lakhdar, and Mohamed Bencheikh will accompany the well-established Moroccan athletes.
On Wednesday, the Moroccan federation noted in a press release that the national para-athletics team has been preparing for the international event since May 24. The preparation phase will end on the eve of the competition on June 8.
The members of the national para-athletics team previously distinguished themselves in international events such as the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo where Ayoub Sadni won the gold medal in the T47 400 meters. The T47 category is dedicated to athletes with a below elbow or wrist amputation or impairment.
Sandi also finished third in the T47 400 m category at the 2019 World Championships in Dubai.
Youssra Karim, discus-throw champion, secured the silver medal in the women’s F41 category for short stature at the Tokyo Games, ahead of her Moroccan teammate Hayat El Garra who came third.
For her part, Saidia Amoudi won the bronze medal in the women’s F34 shot-put game behind China’s Zou Lijuan and Poland’s Lucyna Kornobys. Amoudi’s medal was the first one gained by Morocco in the Paralympic Games.
Recently, the Moroccan para-athletics teams have shown great potential in international competitions. Only last week, Morocco’s paralympic team for Boccia secured two gold medals and one bronze medal. Nadia Ihirri and Mohammed Bouihlaben qualified for the World Boccia Championship in Brazil.
