Morocco In The Spotlight At Canada’s Outaouais Film Festival

Rabat – Morocco will be in the spotlight at the Canadian Outaouais Film Festival (FFO), set to be held from June 2 to 10 in the city of Gatineau, near Ottawa.

The festival, which will pay tribute to Moroccan cinema, aims to highlight the 60 years since the establishment of Morocco-Canada diplomatic relations, a milestone that the two countries celebrate this year.

Several Moroccan films will be screened in the presence of national filmmakers and actors, including Nabil Ayouch and Maryam Touzani.

Touzani’s movie “Le Bleu du Caftan,” co-produced by her husband Ayouch, features among the lineup of the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which will take place from May 17 to 28.

The couple’s productions are known for their strong social themes, often depicting underprivileged segments of Moroccan society.

The FFO organizers stressed that June 4 and 5 will be entirely devoted to celebrating Morocco and its culture, while shedding light on the country’s film industry and rising talents.

Canadian actress and director Mariloup Wolfe will chair the competition, which features more than 75 films from 23 countries.

The renowned festival, which attracts thousands of people annually, will also exhibit Morocco’s traditional decorations, music, gastronomy, crafts and local products. In addition, an animation movie for children and traditional caftans will also be on display, as well as other shows to promote Morocco as a holiday destination.

Moroccan Ambassador to Canada Souriya Otmani said that the capsule of Morocco’s international campaign “Land of Light” was projected in Canada and “will continue to be screened during the days devoted to the kingdom [during the festival].”

Launched by the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), the campaign seeks to place Morocco among the world’s most coveted tourist destinations and boost its attractiveness in the international markets.

ONMT’s recent campaigns, such as the “Light Tour” in Paris, London, and New York, aims to give an impetus to the country’s tourism sector that has suffered unprecedented repercussions because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent travel bans and restrictive measures.
