Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) is forecasting both heavy thunderstorms and high temperatures from Thursday to Saturday.
Heavy thunderstorms, featuring between 15 and 30 millimeters of rain, are expected today from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the provinces of Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Fez, Taza, Moulay Yacoub, Sefrou, Taounate, Meknes, El Hajeb, and Ifrane.
The weather alert also forecasts stormy showers accompanied by hail and gusts of wind under thunderstorms.
DMN additionally expects hot weather with temperatures ranging between 38 and 43 degrees Celcius in different provinces from Friday to Saturday. Affected provinces include Tata, Assa-Zag, Taroudant, Es-Semara, and the interior of the provinces of Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Aousserd.
Hot temperatures are common in Morocco in the month of May. Temperatures differ from one place to another in the North African country, however. While temperatures could be scorching in interior regions and southern provinces, the weather can be moderate in other places such as in the Rabat and Casablanca coastal regions.
While it is always recommended to stay hydrated, experts intensify their recommendations of the importance of consuming sufficient water during heatwaves.
Dehydration could result in heat stress, including cramps, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke, among other health challenges.
Heath stress can result in different symptoms, including sweating, dizziness, and collapse.
