Fez – As his contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC is set to expire by the end of this summer, Moroccan center-back Romain Saiss has cast shadows about his future with the English Premier League (EPL) club.

In an interview with Sky Sports on May 9, Saiss gave a dodgy answer when asked about his future with Wolverhampton, stressing that he has not reached an agreement with the club management.

“I think if everything is not done before the end of the season it just means it is time to go because I want to be fixed for next season,” he said.

The 32-year-old full-back went on to underline that he wants his position to be settled ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, highlighting that as the world’s football most prestigious competition is just around the corner, he needs to start the upcoming season at the right time.

Saiss’ remarkable performances throughout the past few seasons have made him an indispensable player for both Wolves and the Moroccan national team.

Both the head coach of the national Vahid Halilhodzic and the Moroccan fans are counting on the player to lead the Moroccan squad in the much-anticipated Qatar World Cup as Morocco’s Atlas Lions vie to make it out of their tough World Cup group.

With his time at Wolverhampton likely coming to an end, several renowned European clubs have expressed their interest in signing Saiss.

Several reports have indicated that Spanish clubs Villarreal and Real Betis are both keen to sign Romain Saiss in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Among EPL watchers and Wolves’ fans, the prevailing mood is that the Moroccan player’s potential departure would be a huge loss for the EPL club.

The Moroccan defender joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2016 on a four-year contract and a $4 million transfer fee.

His most remarkable achievement with the Wolves was the club’s promotion to the Premier League for the 2018-19 season.

It remains to be seen whether Saiss will leave the club this summer and embark on a new journey with one of Europe’s elite clubs or if the Wolves management will hold onto their indispensable defender and renew his contract.
