Rabat – King Mohammed VI launched on Thursday in Rabat, the construction of the new “Ibn Sina” hospital.

The new hospital will replace Morocco’s health facility of Ibn Sina that was inaugurated in 1954. State media news agency MAP said the new facility  will give the hospital its “historical position.”

It also aims to strengthen the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra healthcare services with a capacity of more than 1,000 beds.

The project’s construction period is estimated at 48 months. The health facility construction will take place with an investment of over MAD 6 billion ($599 million)

The hospital, which will cover an area totaling 11.4 hectares, will include modern architecture and new advanced technologies.

The new 33-floors tower will consist of a medical technology cluster, as well as a conference room, and a national league dedicated to cardiovascular disease.

The space housing the current old Ibn Sina hospital will be converted into green areas and gardens and will eventually house a museum of medicine and other annexes.

With a covered area of over 190,000 square meters,  including the future hospital, the land will include a hospital center, intensive care units, and emergency care room, resuscitation units, a unit to tackle serious respiratory diseases, a hemodialysis center, and technical platforms.

The high-tech standard hospital will also include a  helipad, a car park with a capacity of 1,300 parking spaces, and green spaces to help in patients’ recovery process.

The hospital will serve as an environmentally friendly space,  with “best”  practices of eco-construction as well as new generation technologies, such as solar filters, photovoltaic panels, natural ventilation, recovery of rainwater and its use in watering the green spaces of the hospital) allowing better energy efficiency, in line with Morocco’s commitments to sustainable development.
