Rabat – Moroccan pianist Marouan Benabdallah fascinated on Friday the Italian audience with his remarkable performance of the Arabesque music style during a musical evening in Rome.
Benabdallah introduced the audience to his “Arabesque Music Project,” featuring the beauty and uniqueness of the Arab music repertoire mixed with Western classical music style. His project conveys a message of harmony and peace between different cultures.
He performed masterpieces of internationally renowned Arab musicians and composers, including Syrian Diae Soukari, Palestainian Salvador Arnita, Lebanese Zad Moultaqa, Egyptian Mohammed Fairouz, and Moroccan Nabil Benabdeljalil.
Italy’s Luiss Guido Carli University organized the ceremony in partnership with the Moroccan embassy in Italy and the Med-Or Leonardo foundation, commemorating World Music Day, which is celebrated on June 21.
After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony was celebrated this year to mark the resumption of the embassy’s cultural activities, said Youssef Balla, Morocco’s ambassador to Rome.

“Our Virtuoso pianist has so far been able to list more than 100 composers of classical music from different Arab countries, who compose in a Western style influenced by eastern rhythms and melodies,” said Balla.
Balla highlighted Morocco’s plurality and “diversity of artistic expressions,” describing the kingdom as a “melting pot of diverse cultures and crossroads of civilizations.”
The ceremony marked the presence of several diplomates and high profiles in the field of culture and music.
Born in Rabat, the Moroccan pianist started learning the musical instrument when he was four years old with the help of his mother. At the age of 13, Benabdallah moved to Budapest, Hungary to study music at the Bela Bartok Conservatory. He then continued his studies at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in the same city.
Benabdallah has hosted several musical ceremonies across the world, including India, China, Pakistan, Ghana, and Kenya.
