Fez – The African Football Confederation (CAF) unveiled today “Titrit” as the official mascot of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) expected to take place between July 2 and 23 in Morocco.
Titrit is a Moroccan Amazigh name that means a star. Upon choosing this particular name, the African confederation underlined that the mascot symbolizes “a proud, dignified, rigorous and determined person.”
The mascot comes in the silhouette of a lioness, in reference to Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses who are among the competing teams for the prestigious African title, and to symbolize courage and power – two characteristics of lions.
Dressed in the colors of the Moroccan team, the mascot also appears wearing a traditional selham, a handmade cape, as well as a traditional Moroccan jewel in the form of a tiara.
“Combining authenticity and modernity, Titrit’s Moroccan jewelry and traditional Selham cape gives her a certain feminine majesty,” CAF noted in a statement on its official website.
The governing body of African football had also revealed earlier this week the official poster for the WAFCON, showcasing and celebrating Morocco’s long-standing cultural heritage.

Inspired by Moroccan architecture, the poster depicts the country’s famous historic landmarks such as Casablanca’s Hassan II Mosque, as well as the country’s centuries-old riads.
“The riads (“palaces”) represented are an emblem of Moroccan culture. They symbolize the history and culture of the Kingdom both traditional and modern,” the CAF statement added.
Meanwhile, the work of art is made up of two colors, purple and green.
The purple color symbolizes the new experience of rethinking and reintroducing women’s football in the African continent under the recently-developed CAF women’s football strategy, a 4-year-plan that seeks to develop and promote women’s football. The green color symbolizes unity of the continent.
This year’s edition of Africa’s most prestigious football competition will bring together 12 teams who will lock horns to earn the title.
The draw has placed hosts Morocco in Group A alongside Burkina Faso, Uganda, and Senegal.
Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses’ games against Burkina Faso and Uganda are widely expected to be the most playable for the Moroccan squad.
The team’s toughest game is expected to be against Senegal, currently participating in the WAFCON for the third time in their history.
The Moroccan team’s opening game will be against Burkina Faso on July 2 at 9:30 p.m. (GMT) at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
The Atlas Lionesses’ second game will see Morocco face Uganda on July 5 at 9 p.m. (GMT) at Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, while their third match against Senegal is scheduled to take place on July 8 at 9 p.m. (GMT) at the same venue.
