Rabat – Israel’s Interior Minister, Ayelet Shaked, will visit Morocco on Monday, June 19, Israel’s Envoy to Rabat David Govrin announced today.
“We are happy to receive Mrs. Ayelet Shaked, Israel’s Minister of Interior, who will be on an official visit to Morocco tomorrow,” Govrin said on Twitter.
“It is expected that she will meet the Minister of Interior, the Foreign Minister, and some Moroccan high-ranking officials, and she will discuss cooperation between the two countries in areas of common interests,” he added.
Cooperation between Morocco and Israel has accelerated significantly since the signing of the Abraham accords in late 2020, with the bilateral relationship being especially strong recently in the technology sector.
Morocco’s Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation signed a deal with Israel’s Ministry of Innovation in May to strengthen cooperation in the field, particularly in artificial intelligence, renewable energies, and smart cities.
The agreement was the first of its kind with Israel, with the Moroccan Minister of Higher Education Abdellatif Miraoui saying it will help improve Morocco’s position through student exchanges and collaborative programs.
Morocco’s Ministry of Industry also signed an agreement with Israel Aerospace Industries to cooperate on aerospace technologies.
Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, previously visited Israel for the Negev Summit, which also saw attendance from various other Arab leaders from Egypt, the UAE, and Bahrain.
