Rabat – The Korean embassy in Morocco held a ceremony on Tuesday, July 5 to celebrate the two countries’ milestones achieved in the past six decades, vowing to perpetuate and further cement the spirit of partnership, solidarity, and brotherhood that has defined the establishment of bilateral ties since 1962.
The ceremony was of a particular significance, as it commemorates July 6, which marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Korea.
During the celebration ceremony, the Korean embassy congratulated the six Moroccan scholars chosen among dozens of applicants and granted the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) to pursue their higher studies in various fields in Korea.

The GKS is a scholarship program offered by the Korean government to allow international students to continue with advanced studies in top-ranking Korean institutions and learn the Korean language.
Around 1,300 undergraduate and graduate students around the world benefit from this program every year, which helps establish a strong community that links Korea to their home countries.
The six outstanding Moroccans who were selected this year come from different educational backgrounds, ranging from international relations, visual contents, and media studies, to artificial intelligence, cancer research, and civil environmental engineering.
“I hope what you will experience in Korea will build not only a bridge between Korea and Morocco but bridges among nations and cultures promoting diversity and multilateralism in this ever-divided world,” Korean Ambassador to Morocco Keeyong Chung said in a speech.
In a statement to Morocco World News, Ambassador Chung highlighted the efforts made by the two sides to further promote education, cultural exchange, and cooperation in various fields.
With the Korean embassy in Rabat serving as the oldest one established in the African continent, Ambassador Chung noted that throughout the six decades, Morocco and Korea have shaped their ties in several fields, showing notable development in the automotive sector, technological innovation, and the medical sector, among others.
Moroccan finalists of the 2022 Kpop World Festival and the Quiz on Korea also attended the events. The finalists are set to represent the kingdom and compete alongside international participants in the final round, scheduled to take place in Changwon and Seoul in September.

“The six scholars, alongside the other contestants, attest to the maturity of the relationship between Rabat and Seoul,” Ambassador Chung said, expressing hope that this will bring more constructive outcomes to the two countries’ relations in the long run.
The Korean ambassador further highlighted the importance of culture in uniting people and deepening the two countries’ long-standing ties despite being geographically distant.
“I hope the cultural ambassadors recognized today will be the precursors for others to join the bandwagon of everlasting friendship between our two great countries,” he concluded in his speech.
