Rabat – The Moroccan women’s football team will face its Botswana counterpart in the quarter-finals of the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League (WAFCON) at 9:00 p.m. on July 13, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat.

During the match of the 3rd day, Morocco beat its Senegalese counterpart 1-0, topping Group A after previously outperforming Burkina Faso and Uganda.

Meanwhile, Botswana advanced to the same round as one of the top two third-place finishers.

The last eight teams that secured their spot to the quarter-finals were unveiled as well; Zambia will face Senegal, Cameroon will play against Nigeria, and South Africa will face Tunisia.

In case of victory for the Atlas Lionesses, they will play the semi-final against the winner of Cameroon-Nigeria.

As the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) was the only bidder, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded Morocco to host the 2022 WAFCON from July 2 to 23.

The Moroccan women’s team has shown an outstanding performance in recent months, climbing the FIFA rankings ladder and aiming to achieve more memorable success by lifting the WAFCON trophy.

Since the French professional coach Reynald Pedros began to train the Atlas Lionesses in 2020, the team has risen up the global rankings with encouraging performances, occupying the 8th place of the FIFA rankings in Africa.

They have also not lost a single game in 2022, and have won five of seven including a 2-0 victory against Ghana’s Black Queens.

During Eid Al Adha 2022, and after a well-deserved break following a series of victories in the Group stage, the Atlas Lionesses exchanged their sneakers and sportswear for traditional outfits.

Their pictures taken at the Mohammed VI Football complex have been making the rounds on social media, with many praising their recent performances and wishing them a happy Eid.
