The African Football Confederation (CAF) has nominated five Moroccan players for the women’s categories of the CAF Awards, scheduled to take place on July 21 in Morocco.
The CAF unveiled on Wednesday, July 6 the list of women nominees for this year’s awards.
The CAF Awards is an annual ceremony that honors African clubs, coaches, and players who excelled throughout the footballing season.
Moroccan striker Yasmine Zouhir is the only Moroccan nominated in the “best young player” category.
Zouhir is competing against nine other promising young players from different countries in Africa.

The 16-year-old striker was a top scorer for Morocco during the qualifiers of the U17 World Cup India 2022. With her remarkable performance in the U17, Yasmine is one of the most promising figures of Morocco’s national team.
In the “best interclub player” category, the African football governing body featured four representatives of Rabat’s AS FAR: Fatima Zahra Dahmos, Ghizlane Chebbak, Sanaa Mssoudy, and Fatima Tagnaout.

Chebbak, Mssoudy, and Tagnaout are also among those nominated for the “player of the year” award, alongside 27 other players.

All three are participating in the 2022 games of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which Morocco is hosting from July 2 to 23.
The women’s team of the Moroccan club AS FAR, which secured the bronze medal in the first edition of Women’s Champions League last November, was nominated for the “Club of the year” category.

The competition is fierce, as the category features clubs with notable presence in their home country as well as several African champions, including South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and their runner-up Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies FC.
In the recent FIFA ranking, Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses ranked 8th among the African football teams, ahead of their Senegal, Burkinabe, and Ugandan competitors in WAFCON.
The Lionesses have been praised by the public for their outstanding performance in recent months, as they secured their first-ever World Cup Qualification in June following a 4-2 victory against Ghana.
