Italian MP Paolo Grimoldi joined the campaign applauding Morocco’s recent efforts to facilitate dialogue between Israel, Jordan, and Palestinians on the permanent opening of the Allenby Crossing.
Grimoldi said that Morocco’s role in the Allenby negotiations has once again reaffirmed the country’s position as a stability “guarantor” in the Mediterranean and the Middle East.
The MP, who is the head of the Italian parliamentary delegation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, celebrated the opening of the Allenby Crossing in a tweet, saying: “The Abraham accords are still bearing fruits.”
Morocco entered the Abraham accords in December 2020 after its decision to re-establish relations with Israel.
While announcing the decision, Morocco emphasized its continued commitment to the Palestinian cause with the aim of reaching a two-state solution to end the Israeli-Palestine conflict.
Morocco’s involvement in the Allenby dialogue allowed for an agreement that would make the crossing operational 24/7.
The crossing is the only gate for Palestinians to the world.
The opening will be effective as soon as logistical conditions are met, Israeli and Jordanian authorities said in their agreement.
Israel has also commended Morocco’s major contribution to the success of the Allenby negotiations .
“I thank US resident Je Bidenm King Mohammed VIm and the Kingdom of Morocco for their continued commitment and efforts to promote peace and prosperity in the Middle East,” Israeli Minister ofTransportation Merav Michaeli said on Friday.
Israel’s decision to open the border made international headlines, with American government sources equally acknowledging that Morocco played a key role in mediating between Israelis and Palestinians.
Italian news outlet Futuro Quotidiano said that the Morocco’s role in the dialogue that led to the opening of the Allenby crossing “reflects the Kingdom’s constant and infallible commitment to the Palestinian cause.”
