Casablanca – In line with Morocco’s plan to mitigate wildfire damage, the process of providing financial subsidies to owners of properties damaged by forest fires proceeded in the commune of Jbel Lahbib in the province of Tetouan on Saturday.
Carried out in the presence of Mohamed Mhidia, Wali of the area Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Omar Moro, President of the Regional Council, and Younes Tazi, Governor of the Province of Tetouan, the operation has notably pledged to provide financial help to 27 families whose homes were damaged by the fires in the Jbel Lahbib forest.
Moro highlighted that the region has committed to mobilize MAD 8 million ($777,973) under a special agreement to finance the rehabilitation and upgrading of more than 180 homes.
This is in addition to funding the renovation of more than 150 homes in the province of Larache and 30 in the province of Tetouan, he added.
Commissions have also been established to oversee the implementation of the program and ensure the residences are ready for occupancy as soon as possible, noted the president of the Regional Council.

With a budget of MAD 290 million ($28.2 million), this program is part of Morocco’s regional council’s fulfillment of commitments made in the aftermath of the framework agreement for the implementation of a series of urgent measures to limit the impact of forest fires.
Among other objectives, the program mainly seeks to help provide the necessary support to families affected by forest fires and revive agricultural activities in the affected regions.
In addition to the renovation of damaged homes, the implementation of this assistance scheme will also include the launch of reforestation activities on nearly 9 million hectares of land, as well as the restoration of damaged fruit trees.
