Three Atlas Lionesses Listed In 2022 WAFCON Best Eleven

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has listed three Moroccan players among its “best eleven” for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Thanks to their outstanding skills and remarkable performance during the 2022 WAFCON, Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak, Fatima Tagnaout, and Zineb Redouani were featured among the typical team of the tournament.

Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has listed three Moroccan players among its “best eleven” for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Thanks to their outstanding skills and remarkable performance during the 2022 WAFCON, Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak, Fatima Tagnaout, and Zineb Redouani were featured among the typical team of the tournament.

Earlier this week, the CAF unveiled the best eleven players of the 2022 WAFCON, days after the final of the African competition which took place in Rabat, Morocco.

Throughout the tournament, the Atlas Lionesses proudly represented the jersey of Morocco, leading the team to a spot in the final.

The 2022 WAFCON final, which took place on July 23, ended with South Africa’s Banyana Banyana winning by 2-1, claiming the title for the first time in their history.

Despite Morocco’s defeat in the final, the Moroccan women’s football team produced a spectacular performance that reflected their determination and teamwork.

Morocco’s captain Chebbak was named the best player of the 2022 WAFCON. She received the “Woman of the Tournament” award following the game against South Africa.

In addition, the Atlas Lionesses made history after qualifying for the Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history after beating Botswana 2-1 in the WAFCON quarter finals. The global competition will take place next year in Australia and New Zealand.

The North African team gained momentum in Morocco and across the African continent following their remarkable performance, with Moroccan fans offering the football stars their unwavering support and encouragement.

With a total of 45,562 spectators, the tournament’s semifinal match between Morocco and Nigeria set a new attendance record in the history of women’s football in Africa.

Alongside the three Atlas Lionesses, 2022 WAFCON’s top eleven team featured South Africa’s Andile Dlamini, Bambanani Mbane, Refiloe Jane, and Jermaine Seoposenwe, as well as Zambia’s Margaret Belemu and Grace Chanda.

Nigeria’s Osinachi Ohale and Rasheedat Ajibade were also among 2022 WAFCON’s best eleven.
