Rabat – Moroccan international Adam Masina is returning to the Italian league, Serie A, after four years of experience in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old defender has signed with Udinese Calcio that runs until June 2025, the Italian club announced today on Twitter.
Born in 1994 in Morocco’s north-central city of Khouribga, Masina grew up and trained in Italy at Bologna’s youth academy. He made his first professional appearance with the club in Lega Pro in the 2012-2013 season in which he played 15 games.
Masina proved himself to be a key player, especially during the Italian Cup, where he made 34 appearances and scored twice.
Masina played the same number of games in the following season, scoring once while collecting 35 appearances in the 2017-18 season, his last in Italy.
The Moroccan footballer then transferred to Watford in 2018, where he played in 20 games during his debut season in the Premier League and helped Watford reach the FA Cup final.
In the 2020-21 season, Masina played 26 games between the English Football League Championship and FA Cup scoring twice. In the past year, Masina had 15 appearances in the Premier League and one in the league cup.
The left-back initially represented Italy internationally at the under-21 (U21) level, in which he played six games before opting to play for Morocco’s national team in 2021. Masina played 16 games with the Atlas Lions, who qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In a statement announcing the departure of Masina from the club, Watford thanked him for “helping Watford earn promotion to the Premier League.”
“Masina went on to play 15 games in the English top-flight during the 2021/22 campaign. We thank Adam for his contributions to the club and wish him all the best for the future,” the statement concluded.
