Rabat – Morocco’s Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) opened a tender on Monday, July 4 to select Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) companies for the Noor Atlas solar program, which has a capacity of around 260 Megawatts (MW).
MASEN invited interested companies to submit their applications by October 30, 2022.
The selected companies will be responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of Noor Atlas’ photovoltaic solar power plants in two separate lots, said MASEN in a press release.
The project comprises seven sites, located primarily in Morocco’s eastern and southern regions, added the same source.
The first lot will include the construction of five photovoltaic solar power plants: The Ain Ben Mathan plant with a capacity of 42 MW, the Enjli and Boudnib plants with a production capacity of 42 MW each, and the Ouatat el Haj and Bouanane plants with capacities of 30MW and 36 MW respectively.
Lot number 2 includes two photovoltaic solar power plants in Tan-tan and Tata, with a capacity of 26 MW each.
“Masen is making a significant contribution to the energy transition of the Kingdom through the management of electricity projects from renewable sources, both wind and solar,” added the press release.

The agency stressed that it places the development of renewable energy “at the heart of its strategy,” adding that green energy can contribute to the economic, social, and environmental development in Morocco and elsewhere.
The project is part of Morocco’s goal to source 52% of its energy from renewables by the year 2030.
Renewable energy currently accounts for more than 35% of Morocco’s electricity-producing capacity, a reflection of the North African country’s increased investment in renewables.
“Today, Morocco has around fifty renewable energy projects in operation, with a total capacity of 4109MW,” indicated MASEN.
