Rabat – Applications for the Chevening Scholarships opened on August 2 for Moroccan scholars interested in pursuing their studies in the UK. The application forms will be available online until November 1.
Launched in 1983, the scholarship program has supported more than 50,000 professionals to advance their careers. This year, more than 1,500 scholarships will be offered worldwide for the 2023/2024 academic year.
Explaining Chevening’s mission, Naomi Rayner, Head of Scholarships at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) said “We [are] bringing together incredible people from around the world and supporting them, through education, to achieve their goals.”
Rayner added that “Chevening represents the very best of the UK, welcoming people from across the world to study, grow, and thrive. Being a part of the Chevening network instills a strong sense of pride and responsibility.”
For his part, British Ambassador to Morocco, Simon Martin noted that the Chevening scholarships are destined for scholars who are passionate about driving local and global change.
Stressing that there is no “typical” scholar, Martin said “We want to see that you have energy, curiosity, compassion, a clear vision for your future, and the ability to achieve your goals. If this sounds like you, then you are very likely to fit in with our community of over 50,000 alumni worldwide.”

Urging Moroccan scholars to apply for the program, the British ambassador concluded his message to applicants by stating that “there is a lot to gain from submitting a thoughtful application.”
The new call for applications follows the selection of 11 Moroccan scholars who were awarded to study at a UK university this year.
In March, Ambassador Martin honored Moroccan alumni of the Chevening Scholarship program in a reception ceremony.
In an interview with Morocco World News, Fatima Ezzahraa Habbat, a Moroccan who pursued a master’s degree in real estate under the scholarship, noted that the program gave her access to “so many resources, a great teaching body, and great facilities are such a privilege.” She added: “I’m confident to say that higher education in the UK is one of the best worldwide.”
