Rabat – Denying the “imaginary” reports by some Moroccan media, Morocco’s Royal Football Federation confirmed on Saturday that the financial compensation for the national team’s ex-coach Vahid Halilhodzic’s departure was the equivalent of a three-month salary.
“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) denies the information relayed by some media about the financial amount collected by the former coach of the Atlas Lions Vahid Halilhodzic after he left his post,” the federation said in a press release.
It added that the “monthly salary of the former coach does not exceed 800,000 dirhams.”
The Moroccan federation confirmed the departure of Halilhodzic on August 11, stating that the two parties had “divergent visions” regarding the preparation for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“The two parties decided to separate by mutual consent,” FRMF stressed, wishing the French-Bosnian coach good luck with his future endeavors while thanking him for qualifying the Moroccan team for the World Cup.
Rumors about Halilhodzic’s departure had flocked Moroccan social media for months since the football fans were not happy with the coach’s performance and decisions.

The former coach had feuds with leading players such as Hakim Ziyech who refused to rejoin the Atlas Lions under Halilhodzic’s coaching.
As for now, the head coach position for the Moroccan national football team remains vacant amid reports that former Wydad coach Walid Regragui is expected to be Halilhodzic’s replacement. Many sports websites and fans speculated that Regragui would be named the new Atlas Lions coach, but the federation has not yet confirmed or denied the claims.
With the Qatar World Cup around the corner, the FRMF is apparently dealing with the pressure to appoint a new coach by taking the time needed for an appointment that is expected to define much of the future of Moroccan football.
