Rabat – King Mohammed VI commended today the solid relations of friendship and cooperation between Morocco and Ukraine in a message of congratulations to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky on his country’s national day.
In the message, the King extended his warm congratulations to the Ukrainian people, wishing them peace and prosperity as they enter the seventh month of their resistance to Russia’s invasion.
The King also expressed satisfaction with the diplomatic ties between Morocco and Ukraine, highlighting the shared will of both Rabat and Kyiv to further strengthen collaboration to serve the interests of the Ukrainian and Moroccan peoples.
Morocco has frequently called for a peaceful settlement of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
In February, days before the Russian invasion, Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concerns about the then escalating tensions and emphasized Rabat’s approach of encouraging initiatives and actions aimed towards a peaceful resolution of conflicts.
Morocco has been stressing its principle of non-interference throughout the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
As the kingdom was among the countries that abstained from voting for a UN General Assembly resolution condemning Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has consistently renewed its commitment to respecting the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national unity of all member states of the UN.
“The Kingdom of Morocco recalls that, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, the Members of the Organization must settle their disputes by peaceful means and according to the principles of international law, in order to preserve world peace and security,” the ministry said.
Ukraine is one of Morocco’s major trading partners, with the website Trading Economics recently documenting that Morocco’s imports of Ukrainian cereals were valued at $286.25 million in 2020.
