Rabat – Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat denied any links to an alleged mediation office offering employment opportunities in Israel for Moroccans.
The liaison office said in a statement that it has no connection with a mediation office or any other offices claiming to issue work visas for Israel.
While Morocco and Israel have agreed to work on an agreement that will allow Moroccans to work in Israel, the two countries have still not officialized the deal, the statement stressed.
“The Israel liaison office in Rabat does not issue work visas until this agreement is signed and ratified by both governments,” it added, noting that Israeli companies are also in charge of preparing the formalities in cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Interior for visa granting.
In June, reports in the Israeli media revealed Israel’s plans to attract Moroccan workers to address the country’s acute shortage of skilled workforce in some essential sectors.
Most of the reports cited Israeli Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked, who announced in a press conference in June that his country is planning to launch a pilot program that would welcome Moroccan workers, particularly in the fields of construction and care of the elderly.
The media presented the Israeli minister’s remarks as an indication of Israel’s strategy to further deepen ties with Morocco, after re-establishing diplomatic relations with Rabat in December 2020 as part of the US-brokered Abraham Accords.
