Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is planning more serious actions against two of its employees who were drugged and robbed by two women in Colombia.
On Thursday, the case of Moroccan diplomats who were drugged and robbed by two women in the city of Bogota made headlines in local news outlets in Morocco and Colombia.
A diplomatic source has since confirmed to Morocco World News (MWN) that Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita has decided to suspend the two employees.
The two employees who work under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Moroccan representation in Colombia have returned to Morocco following the controversial affair.
“They already appeared before a disciplinary council. An investigation is ongoing to determine further and more serious measures against them,” the diplomatic source told MWN, stressing that the ministry cannot accept such behavior.
The source also cited the mistranslation of facts surrounding the case by Moroccan media.
“The problem is that news outlets here translate a lot of false information. For example, they were talking about three employees of the [Moroccan] embassy, but in fact, there were only two. Only one of them is a diplomat, the other one is an accountant,” the diplomatic source said.
The diplomat said that the Moroccan diplomats contacted the two women through the mobile dating app Tinder before meeting them in an apartment.
The two women then used psychotropic substances to drug the two diplomats before stealing valuable items from the apartment, including smartphones.
Reports said that the two women used scopolamine, or “devil’s breath,” a widely used drug in cartel and human trafficking-related crimes in Latin American countries like Colombia.
