Rabat – Police in the northern Moroccan province of M’diq-Fnideq have arrested four suspects for their involvement in deliberately starting a fire that caused considerable material damage in a forest on Monday.
The suspects are aged between 20 and 30, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said in a statement released earlier today.
“Investigations showed that the defendants were present at the scene of the fire and they started the fire in this forest area,” the DGSN statement noted.
Investigations are underway to determine the circumstances of the cade and the motives for the act “or whether it was an accident,” added the statement, noting that the two suspects have been placed in police custody pending further investigations.
Three firefighters died on Monday during a rescue attempt in M’diq-Fnideq, while two other rescuers were seriously injured.
