Elements of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) murdered a 21-year-old Palestinian man in occupied East Jerusalem on Monday, according to local sources.
The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that the Israeli forces killed the Palestinian man identified as Ibrahim Shaham after breaking into his family home.
Shaham’s father said Israeli forces broke into their house and opened fire on him and his son after they came out of their rooms to see what was happening.
While the father ran back to his room, his son caught a shot in the head.
According to WAFA, the IDF elements left Sahaham bleeding for 40 minutes “before taking him away.”
The family then had no knowledge of the whereabouts or the situation of their son until the announcement of his death by the Israeli army, WAFA reported.
Hussein al-Sheik, the Secretary General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, has called on the international community to intervene.
Al-Sheikh also called for an international investigation into the killing of Shaham.
On Monday, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the absence of international deterrence against Israeli actions in occupied Palestinian territories.
The absence of accountability “encourages Israel to continue its crimes against the Palestinian people,” the statement said, describing Shaham’s killing as “an extrajudicial and premeditated assassination,” and a “heinous crime.”
It added, “This heinous crime is an extension of the series of executions and field assassinations committed by the occupation forces on instructions from the political level in the occupying power.”
The ministry also accused the Israeli government of being fully and directly responsible for the crime.
In addition to the killing of the young man, Palestinian security sources also reported the detention of at least 24 Palestinians during raids across the occupied West ban on Monday and Sunday.
Wafa quoted the sources as saying that the Israeli forces “rounded up nine Palestinians and ransacked a number of houses” in the region.
