Rabat – Morocco’s national team for blind football on Wednesday secured a convincing 4-0 victory against its Nigerian counterpart in El Mansouria in the Casablanca-Settat region.
The two teams clashed in the 5th African Cup of Nations (CAN) for blind football hosted by Morocco from September 17 to 23.
After defeating the West African team, the Moroccan squad qualified for the final of the continental tournament.
Morocco currently holds first place in the continental tournament with 6 points, ahead of Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire with 3 points each as well as Mali and Egypt with 0 points.
The national selection notably defeated Mali and Egypt in two consecutive games with respective scores of 4-0 and 3-0.
Morocco’s impressive performance in the CAN games has won the country a ticket to the World Games, scheduled from 18-27 August 2023 at the University of Birmingham, England.
The Moroccan team will face Cote d’Ivoire at 7 pm tonight, and will compete the following day for the continental title and for qualification to the Paralympics Games which are set to take place in Paris from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
The final game will be live streamed on the YouTube channel of IBSA (International Blind Sports Federation).

Morocco’s blind football team has won four CAN championships and a bronze medal at the Paralympic Games of Tokyo.
Despite the numerous achievements of the national team of blind football, handisports remain widely unpopular in Morocco and worldwide.
