Casablanca – A recent survey from the Prometheus Institute for Democracy and Human Rights found that 86% of Moroccans are not satisfied with the parties on the national political scene.
The study’s findings — which involved 1,239 young people aged 18 to 34 — also revealed that 47% of Moroccan youth distrust political parties, while 26% are uninterested in politics altogether.
Yet, the survey reported an increase in youth participation in the 2021 legislative elections. Based on the field survey, 58% of the young people interviewed said they had registered to vote, despite the lack of interest in political parties.
On the other hand, the study further reported Moroccan youth’s dissatisfaction with their financial and family situation and their concerns about their future. Between 6 and 10% of the participants in the study expressed dissatisfaction with their current financial and family situation.

The report confirmed that insecurity and economic fragility are intertwined and have a substantial influence on the autonomy of young people. It discovered that poor work stability, financial autonomy, and precarious family circumstances raise young people’s anxiety.
The study concluded then that the level of economic integration of young people is essential to stabilize their life course.
According to the survey, the family remains the most important axis in reaching psychological stability among Moroccan adolescents. The majority of the study participants (96%) reported that the family provides them with greater security than religion (71%).
Although the majority of Moroccan youths’ are dissatisfied with political parties, they do not do much to change the situation. Only a few percent of young people participate in elections, a situation that must be changed in the near future in order to have a better political future.
