Casablanca – Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and Israel’s Bar-Ilan University signed an energy cooperation agreement on September 29 in Israel.
The agreement calls for the establishment of a binational research program with 33 Israeli and 20 Moroccan research groups from various universities. It will bring together energy experts and researchers from major academic institutions in Israel and Morocco to develop local and worldwide renewable energy solutions.
The program will focus on the development of rechargeable batteries, recycling, solar energy, and the hydrogen economy. Additionally, the program will cover energy storage and delivery to neighboring countries such as Spain.

The energy agreement was signed by the scientific director of Bar-Ilan University’s Energy and Sustainability Center Doron Aurbach, and UM6P’s President Hicham El Habti in the presence of the Israeli Minister of Education Yifat Shasha Biton, and the president of the aerospace industry Amir Peretz.
Also present were the president of Bar-Ilan University Aryeh Tsavan, the head of the liaison office of Morocco in Israel Abderrahim Beyyoudh, and senior officials of Israeli energy companies.
“This is a declaration of hope for the future,” said the Israeli education minister. “Hope to make an impact on the world by taking collaborative responsibility for a better future.”
This agreement is a “historic stepping stone” for cooperative research projects and constructive engagement between the two countries, the minister added. She hoped that this partnership would serve to strengthen relations between Israel and Rabat.
Beyyoudh, for his part, said that this “historic” agreement “will add to the many memorandums of understanding that we have signed since coming here in February 2021 to reopen the liaison office of the kingdom of Morocco in Tel Aviv.”
