UN’s Transforming Education Summit Starts ‘Solutions Day’

Rabat – The UN Transforming Education Summit, part of the first week of the 77th UN General Assembly meeting in New York, is set to discuss several solutions to issues undermining education worldwide.

Dubbed “solutions day,” the second day of the high-level event will cover several varying approaches to improving education around the world.

Kicking off the day’s program is a private sector roundtable, which will run simultaneously to an “action track” organized by the Global Education Coalition, UNESCO, Morocco, Colombia, UNICEF, UN Global Compact and the Global Business Coalition for Education.

Following a discussion on Private-Public Partnerships for education, the summit will discuss inclusive learning through the use of digital tools. Next, the summit’s participants will cover foundational learning, education for refugees, and technical and vocational education, an increasingly important topic in a time of rapidly shifting technology.

The summit’s “solutions day” is set to conclude with discussions on skills and labor market transitions in our current volatile global context, and ways to transform education through teacher-led grassroots efforts.

On Friday, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed and EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen penned an opinion piece in which they emphasized that the summit should be a “global moment of truth.” The two top officials called on participating country officials to “collectively fill the investment gap to tackle the global education crisis.”

“Now is the time to invest in learning recovering and help put the SDGs back on track,” they urged.
