Moroccan Worker in Italy Dies After Getting Stuck in Machinery

Rabat – A Moroccan worker died after he got trapped in machinery at a company that produces iron grates near Varese in Italy on Wednesday.

Italian news agency ANSA reported that the Moroccan man had gotten stuck in the machine as “he was carrying out maintenance work.”

Italian news outlet Today identified the victim as Abderrazak Bouchkara, a Moroccan citizen who had lived in Italy for decades.

He worked for Teconofilo di Malgesso, a company that produces iron grids.

The news outlet said several people intervened to help rescue the Moroccan man. A rescue helicopter, a medical team, an ambulance, and firefighters were deployed in order to attempt to save the 59-year-old’s life.

The deceased Moroccan man leaves behind four children.

Investigations are still ongoing to determine “whether the cause of the accident was a malfunction of the machinery or a human error,” Today reported.

Ansa blamed Wednesday’s incident on poor safety measures in the Italian workplace, describing the event as the “latest in a long and shocking spate of such fatal workplace accidents in Italy.”
