Rabat – King Mohammed VI will deliver a speech on the opening of the first session of the second legislative year at Morocco’s parliament on Friday, October 14.
The Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol, and Chancellery announced today that the King’s speech will be broadcast on national television and radio channels at 4:45 pm.
The speech is set to address both the parliament deputies and the nation, announcing the country’s priority commitments during the new legislative year.
In accordance with customs, parliament members are required to wear Morocco’s traditional djellaba.
In 2021, the King’s speech emphasized Morocco’s commitment to strengthen its status to defend its interests, including territorial integrity.
The King also outlined Morocco’s approach to tackling COVID-19 repercussions as well as the implementation of Morocco’s new development model.
The new development model is part of ongoing reforms in the country, seeking to tackle socio-economic challenges such as unemployment and economic growth.
Like many countries across the world, Morocco is facing an economic crisis, including the expansion of poverty and vulnerability due to the COVID crisis and inflation.
A new report from Morocco’s High Commission Planning (HCP) found that vulnerability and poverty affected over 3.2 million people due to inflation and the COVID crisis.
The report warned that Morocco lost seven years of its development progress, bringing it back to poverty levels similar to those recorded in 2014.
It remains to be seen whether the government will announce immediate measures to tackle the crisis amid backlash and campaigns demanding transparency and lower commodity prices.
