Rabat – King Mohammed VI has sent a message of condolence to Khadija el Bidaouia’s family, who died on October 15 in Rabat after a long battle with lung cancer.
The King extended his sympathies to her loved ones and fans, sending his sincere compassion in this painful circumstance.
In this message, the monarch recognized the grief of the family’s loss. The King took the opportunity to recall the great qualities of the artist, her sincere patriotism, and her loyalty towards the Alaouite monarchy, asking God to welcome her among his faithful servants, and to grant patience and comfort to her family.
The King of Morocco highlighted the artistic journey of late Khadija el Bidaouia who was a pioneer and an icon of the popular musical heritage “L’Aita Marsawiya.”
He also credited El Bidaouia for her contributions to the consolidation and preservation of the authentic Moroccan heritage.
“And make the good announcement to the enduring who say, when a misfortune reaches them: Certainly we belong to Allah, and it is to Him that we will return, Truthful is the word of God,” concluded the royal message.
Battling lung cancer for many months, the artist was supported by the Ministry of Culture as they admitted her to a military hospital in Rabat after her health started to deteriorate a few weeks ago.
The late Khadija el Bidaouia was an influence to many Moroccans with her songs from the art of l’Aita Marsawiya.
The Moroccan popular musician began her career in the 1970s with groups such as “Ouled Bouaazaoui,” “Ouled el Aouni” as well as the “Toulati el Farah Lemnouar” group.
During that era, the singer was coached by many Aita Sheikhs, which made her a revolutionary symbol as she actively established herself in a male-dominated musical industry.
