Rabat — Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra has once again emerged as Morocco’s highest-ranked public university in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026, marking the eighth consecutive year the institution has led the national standings.
The university secured a place in the 401–600 global band among 1,646 higher education institutions from 116 countries and territories assessed in this year’s edition of the rankings.
The results were announced on Wednesday during the Global Sustainable Development Congress 2026, held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from June 22 to 25.
In a statement, the university said the ranking reflects its continued commitment to sustainable development and reinforces its position as a national leader in promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Ibn Tofail University reported notable improvements across several thematic areas evaluated by the ranking, including partnerships for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, affordable and clean energy, quality education, zero hunger, clean water and sanitation, as well as decent work and economic growth.
The THE Impact Rankings are currently the only global performance tables that assess universities based on their contribution to achieving the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Unlike traditional university rankings that focus primarily on academic reputation and research output, the THE Impact Rankings evaluate institutions on a broader range of criteria, including teaching, research, knowledge transfer, governance, and societal impact.
The latest recognition further underscores Morocco’s growing efforts to integrate sustainability principles into higher education and strengthen universities’ contributions to social, economic, and environmental development.
