Rabat – Morocco’s Under-20 national football team has defeated its Algerian counterpart with a 2 – 0 victory, as part of matchday 2 of the UNAF U-20 group stage. 

The tournament is held between the members of the Union of North African Football (UNAF), which include Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt.

Atlas Lion Wissam Lantaki scored Morocco’s first goal in the 36th minute of the game, followed by Omar Seddik who scored the national team’s second goal in the 96th minute.

After today’s win, Morocco’s national team has jumped to the top of the qualifiers with a total of four points.

Soccer212, a website dedicated to news on Moroccan football, took to Twitter to celebrate the win as well as highlight the Atlas Lions’ remarkable performance.

“Important victory for our Lions 2/0 against Algeria … Proud of you lions,” they wrote.

The regional tournament takes place every year. This year’s UNAF U-20 is taking place in Egypt.

Morocco faced its Tunisian counterpart on Tuesday as part of the sporting event’s matchday 1 and the game ended with a 0 – 0 draw. Similarly, Libya and Algeria’s opening match ended in a 1 – 1 tie.

Morocco will face Libya’s national team on Monday at 2:00 pm (GMT+1) in the Egyptian city of Suez, as part of matchday 3 of the group stage.
