Rabat – The Community of Nations shed light on King Mohammed VI’s spiritual and temporal leadership, said the King’s advisor André Azoulay on Tuesday in Berlin.
While addressing the Bundestag as part of a Konrad Adenauer Foundation conference on challenges in the Euro-Mediterranean area, Azoulay highlighted “the spiritual and temporal leadership embodied by King Mohammed VI within the Community of Nations.”
The advisor added that a Community of Nations “which has taken note of Morocco’s pioneering, proactive and consensual commitment to the respect of otherness and diversities in line with our historical, cultural and traditional fundamentals.”
Azoulay highlighted “the coherence and the impact of Morocco’s structural provisions in this perspective,” including the preamble of the 2011 Constitution voted for by the Moroccan people.
The preamble “mentions without exception, nor frill the specificity of different civilizations that have nurtured and forged the very rich uniqueness of Moroccan society today,” he indicated.
“It is in the same dynamic that we must read and understand the exceptional national and international impact, in which the King inaugurated Bayt Dakira in Essaouira, and the rewriting and revision of school textbooks for children to learn the entirety of their history,” Azoulay added.
He further recalled that in March 2009, King Mohammed VI declared that “His reading of the Holocaust and that of the Moroccan people are not those of amnesia, they are those of a memorial wound inscribed in one of the most painful chapters in the pantheon of universal heritage.”
“These words and phrases spoken in Morocco, in the land of Islam, have a special resonance today in this room of the Bundestag, a few hundred meters from the space that saw Hitler take power,” Azoulay continued.
In this regard, the advisor invited German politicians to “take the right measure of the degree of maturity, spirit of responsibility and ethical and universal consciousness that characterize and give substance and reality to the exciting and exemplary path that Morocco has chosen to take and to privilege.”
“Speaking in Berlin and in the Bundestag of the diversity that Morocco has had the talent to put at the heart of its social modernity, is not an ordinary exercise,” Azoulay concluded.
