Casablanca – The Republic of El Salvador inaugurated yesterday, October 13, its first embassy in Rabat, the first of its kind in Africa.
“The opening of the first embassy of El Salvador in Africa, here in Rabat, is a living testimony to the excellence of bilateral relations,” Salvadoran Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandra Hill Tinoco said.“It is a historic moment in Salvadoran foreign policy.”
“The visit of my Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, to San Salvador in June 2019, marked the beginning of the consolidation and strengthening of bilateral relations, to the point that Morocco has become our main ally and partner in Africa and the Maghreb region,” Tinoco noted.
Representing El Salvador, Carlos Efrain Segura Aragon expressed in New York, before members of the UN General Assembly’s 4th Committee, his country’s support for Morocco’s efforts to find a realistic, pragmatic, and long-term political solution to the Western Sahara dispute.
The representative of El Salvador stressed that the Moroccan Autonomy Plan is “fundamental” to the efforts of the Security Council which has described it as a “viable solution” since 2007.

Commemorating the new embassy, the Salvadoran diplomat emphasized her government’s commitment to working closely with Morocco on a wide range of issues of mutual concern.
“Despite the geographical distance and cultural diversity of our peoples, Morocco and El Salvador share the same values and principles,” Tinoco continued.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Director General of Bilateral Relations and Regional Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fouad Yazourh, as well as the Ambassador of El Salvador to Morocco Ignacio de Cossio Perez de Mendoza.
