The platform’s mission is to enhance Moroccan Arabic-language content on the internet and to expose readers to Moroccan society in all of its facets.
The website guides Internet users through the cultural and historical landscapes of Morocco, offering diverse content ranging from information about Amazigh people to the Jewish Moroccan community.
On Maalama’s official website, the platform states that it derives its content from reliable scientific sources and references to provide researchers and readers with documented and up-to-date knowledge on the country.
The company also seeks to contribute to the electronic documentation of various topics such as Moroccan scientific knowledge, culture and arts.
The website was founded by five young Moroccans aspiring to write the collective memory of Moroccans and preserve their heritage, including two doctoral students in popular culture and sociology, and two university professors of political science and sociology.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication has adopted several strategies to enable Moroccans to access digital research content.
Various ministerial departments are carrying out a digitization process; on May 5, the ministry announced the digitization of 200 public libraries across the country.
