Casablanca – Scottish adventurer, TV presenter, and author Alice Morrison launched her recent book “Walking with Nomads” this week in Morocco, in a celebration hosted by the British Ambassador to Morocco Simon Martin at his residence.
Morrison’s book shares her journey and adventures across Morocco from the desert to the Atlas Mountains.
According to the British Embassy’s press release, the book illustrates the transforming richness of the desert and mountains, which offer a complete getaway from “everyday concerns.”
On the other hand, “Walking with Nomads” also demonstrates how the old world of the nomads is under threat like never before, the statement added.
“When I first came to Morocco eight years ago I never dreamed how much I would come to love this wonderful country,” the Scottish author said.
“The deserts and mountains, but most of all the people, have stolen my heart. I hope when Moroccans read this book they will walk with me on the journey and enjoy it as much as I did,” she added.

In a statement to Morocco World News, Morrison said: “I came to Morocco in 2014, […] and I fell in love with the whole country, not just with one nomad, I fell in love with everything. And I decided to stay.”
“As I lived here, I wanted to know more about the wilderness, the heart of Morocco,” she added.
As a result, the Scottish traveler decided to begin her adventure in Morocco starting from the Sahara to the Atlas Mountains to “walk the whole of Morocco.”
“Morocco is full of interest. It has amazing nature: mountains, deserts, and sea. It has an incredible history. Everywhere you walk in Morocco, you find history under your feet […] and it has wonderful people,” the author continued. “The hospitality and the kindness I met in Draa really inspired me.”

Although Morrison faced a lot of difficulties, including the difficult weather conditions in the Sahara and drinking water shortage, she did not give up on her journey and was able to overcome the obstacles with her Moroccan team (three Amazigh men and six camels).
Thus, the journey was not only an experience for Morrison to learn new things, it was also an opportunity for her to experience numerous life lessons.
“The main thing I learned is patience. Because when you are doing such a long journey, you have to be patient. If you are angry, tired, hungry, or thirsty, you just have to wait,” the author noted.
“The second thing I learned is that people are the same no matter the color of their skin, whether they are men or women, whether they are old or young. All of us have the same heart […] and that heart is a good heart. That’s what Morocco has told me,” Morrison concluded.

The newly launched book mainly addresses Morrison’s adventure in Morocco.
During her 1,400-kilometer trek in the Draa river across the mountains of Morocco, the Scottish explorer discovered dinosaur tracks in the M’goun region in southern Morocco. She also discovered a lost city and what appeared to be a map of an ancient spacecraft.
The author also spotlighted the issue of climate change and water shortage in Morocco through observation and interviewing the country’s nomad populations.
This is in addition to the difficulties of childbirth and raising children in the wilderness that the book also underlined.

Alice Morrison was born in Edinburgh but grew up in Africa. She studied Arabic and Turkish at Edinburgh University.
Before starting her adventuring journeys, the Scottish author was building a career in journalism. She worked for the BBC and was the CEO of Vision + Media.
In 2014, Morrison moved to Morocco to run the Marathon Des Sables. That was how she became interested in the kingdom’s history and culture.
In 2017, she presented her first television series, From Morocco to Timbuktu, which was aired on BBC2.
The Scottish author already published a book titled “Adventures in Morocco” in 2020. “Walking with Nomads” is available now for purchase on Amazon.
