Rabat – Only hours before the world’s largest football tournament, Morocco’s Atlas Lions are full of confidence that they can make history during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Moroccan footballer Jawad El Yamiq spoke to the press on Saturday about the Atlas Lions, emphasizing that the national team is “ready to challenge anyone” during the World Cup.
“We have players that participate in the biggest championships. We are able to challenge anyone. I hope we will meet all expectations,” he said during a press conference.
A World Cup draw placed Morocco in Group F with the world’s second-best team Belgium, World Cup 2018 finalists Croatia, and Canada.
The Atlas Lions are set to face off Croatia first on November 23.
El Yamiq said that the national team has spent their pre-match days studying their opponents’ strong points, emphasizing that Belgium, although it has key players, does not “scare” the Atlas Lions.
“We are ready to fight,” El Yamiq stressed, emphasizing his pride to be part of the national team.
For his part, Abdelhamid Sabiri emphasized his satisfaction with being part of the national team participating in the event, saying that “being part of this group is a real pleasure… I hope to make Moroccans proud.”
All of Morocco’s national football players are entering the competition with high hopes and spirits, promising Moroccans a good performance during the World Cup.
Earlier this week, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi said: “We are young people with ambition, and we want to do great things together and do our best for our country.”
Hakimi is part of head coach Walid Regragui’s 26-men lineup gearing up for the World Cup in training sessions in Qatar.
The Atlas Lions’ fixtures in Group F include a match against Belgium on November 27 and one against Canada on December 1.
The Atlas Lions played a friendly game on Thursday, where they triumphed against Georgia – raising expectations for Moroccans in hopes to see their national football teams secure decisive wins against opponents in Group F.
