Rabat – Following Morocco’s 2-0 victory over Belgium’s Red Devils at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, some confusion has emerged over Morocco’s first goal, as FIFA seems to have attributed it to Romain Saiss.

Despite previous psots showing that Abdelhamid Sabiri scored the goal from a set piece, instead FIFA confusingly decided to award the goal to Saiss, who was the captain during the game.

The Morocco-Belgium page on FIFA’s official website credited the goal to Saiss, presumably because the captain touched the ball and deflected it slightly before it reached the back of Thibaut Courtois’ net.

The World Cup’s official Twitter account also posted a video of the goal this morning, attributing it to Sabiri, as was originally the case.

Morocco World News attempted to get in touch with FIFA to clear the confusion, but has not received a response.

Morocco defeated Belgium on Sunday, prompting wild celebrations from Moroccan fans in the north African country and abroad.

Moroccan cities, as well as Doha itself, saw thousands of football fans flood the streets, singing in celebration of the Atlas Lions’ victory. The victory was even celebrated by Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad, who was present during the match.
