Rabat – Police at the Cairo International Airport have reportedly arrested Egyptian actress Menna Shalaby for alleged possession of drugs.
According to local news outlet Shourouk TV, security forces found 12 bags of sweets stuffed with marijuana in Shalaby’s possession as she returned to Egypt from New York on Friday.
Cannabis possession is illegal and punishable by law in Egypt. According to Sensi Seeds, “if you’re caught with it [Cannabis], you could face a minimum of one year in prison, plus a fine of at least 1,000 Egyptian pounds.”
Egyptian customs officials filed a report against the actress and kept her in detention at the airport, indicated the source.
Shorouk TV added that Shalaby was then referred to the El Nozha Public Prosecution and that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.

The speculations came as a big shock for Shalaby’s fans, who did not expect the popular Egyptian artist to be embroiled in a drug case.
Shalaby’s last Instagram post was flooded with comments from fans, with some expressing their shock and disappointment to hear the news.
Others extended their support to the Egyptian star, with some suggesting that it might have been a setup.
Born in 1982, Shalaby started her acting career in 2001 and has since starred in several cinema and TV productions. She was the first Egyptian Actress to be nominated for the Emmy Awards.
