Rabat – Qatari sports channel beIN Sports announced on Saturday that it will broadcast 22 games in the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar for free in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, including the opening game between Qatar and Ecuador on Sunday.
The initiative is meant to celebrate the first World Cup held in the Arab World.
“This is a celebration of a World Cup in and for the Arab world. We are thrilled to be able to offer key matches free-to-air to the region’s passionate football fans,” CEO of beIN MENA Mohammad Al-Subaie said.
The matches will be broadcast on the network’s free-to-air channel, giving the opportunity for millions of households in the region to access the games.
Qatari channel beIN is the official broadcaster of the competition, as has been the case with recent editions of the World Cup.
In Morocco, the National Company of Radio and Television (SNRT) obtained the rights to broadcast 10 matches for national audiences, including all of the Moroccan national team’s games.
The World Cup group draw placed Morocco in group F, alongside Croatia, Belgium, and Canada.
The Atlas Lions’ opening game against Croatia will take place on Wednesday at 14:00 local time.
