Rabat – Moroccan Judicial police forces arrested 10 suspects involved in an active firearms manufacturing network near Taza in northern Morocco.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that security services mobilized 153 officers, including intervention staff and trained police dogs to carry out the operation in several mountainous areas near Taza.
Police seized 10 rifles, three barrels, 137 cartridges of live ammunition, and 10 empty cartridges during security raids at the suspects’ homes.
Police also seized equipment used in the manufacturing of rifles.
Preliminary investigation shows that the members of the network were manufacturing the firearms and distributing them to people involved in drug trafficking.
Police put the suspect in custody for further investigation to determine the circumstances of the case and arrest possible accomplices involved in the network.
DGSN said that the arrest was in collaboration with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
The ownership and use of guns in Morocco are illegal under the penal code.
