Rabat – The Arab League Summit in Algiers concluded by stressing its firm position against all forms of interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries.

The Arab League issued the Algiers declaration, in which participants emphasized their willingness to work against all forms of interference affecting Arab countries’ domestic affairs.

The text of the declaration emphasizes the importance of rejecting “foreign interference in all its forms in the internal affairs of Arab countries and adherence to the principle of Arab solutions to Arab problems by strengthening the role of the League of Arab States in preventing and resolving crises by peaceful means, and working to strengthen Arab-Arab relations.”

The text of the declaration is in line with approaches adopted by several countries, condemning the interference of foreign countries in the domestic affairs of sovereign nations.

Prior to the Arab Summit, Morocco denounced Iranian interference in its domestic affairs, pointing to Tehran’s collusion with the separatist group, the Polisario Front.

Morocco cut diplomatic ties with Iran in May 2018, accusing its proxy Hezbollah of arming and training the Polisario Front to undermine the country’s security and stability.

In a recent interview with Al Arabiya, Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita emphasized the country’s concerns about Iran’s interference.

“We cannot change reality through decisions or an agenda. Foreign interventions in the Arab world are a reality and Morocco can talk about Iran clearly. Iran funds an armed militia,” Bourita said.

Several countries echoed the minister’s statement during the Arab League summit, including Bahrain and Yemen, both of which strongly spoke out against Iran’s interference in the domestic affairs of Arab countries.

Several other countries, such as Egypt, emphasized the need to preserve territorial integrity and the sovereignty of Arab countries, as well as the importance of good neighborliness.

In addition, the Arab League Summit renewed its commitment and support for several causes, particularly the Palestinian cause.

The final statement emphasized the need to strengthen the Arab League, in order to expand its role in resolving political issues. This includes efforts to protect Palestine and Palestinians’ legitimate rights to guarantee an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The final statement also emphasized full solidarity and support for Libyans, expressing hope to see a political solution that preserves the unity and sovereignty of the country’s security.

The same declaration expressed support for Yemen and all efforts aiming to reach a political solution with the aim of achieving permanent political stability in the Gulf country.

Morocco was represented by a delegation led by Bourita during the two-day event.
