Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) announced that more rainfall will hit several Moroccan provinces from Wednesday to Thursday.
Heavy rainfalls ranging between 40 and 90 millimeters will affect the provinces of Tangier-Asilah, Fahs Anjra, Tetouan, Larache, and Ouezzane from Wednesday at 7:00 am to Thursday.
The same weather will affect M’diq-Fnideq, Chefchaouen, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, and Kenitra.
Morocco’s weather was marked by significant rainfall over the past few weeks. The weather will serve Morocco’s agriculture season well, which has suffered from several setbacks due to a lack of downpours and the severest drought that has hit the North African country in three decades.
The lack of rainfall in the previous season caused “very low” dam levels compared to the past 10 years.
Rainfall reached only 21.8 millimeters as of October 31, the number is 45% lower compared to the normal rate and a 6.1% drop compared to the previous season.
The lack of rainfall also caused a decrease of 67% in Morocco’s cereal production. Morocco’s cereal yields reached 4 million quintals in the 2021-2022 agriculture season compared to over 100 million quintals produced in a season earlier.
