Somerset – Spain’s national police seized today 4.4 tonnes of Hashish from a boat in the southwestern Spanish city of  Cadiz. Spain’s Ministry of the Interior disclosed that the drugs originated from Morocco and were destined to reach Latin America.

The report detailed that the drugs originally left the western region of Morocco where the illegal substance had been loaded onto a boat, staffed by two British crew who have since been arrested for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

The boat had to unexpectedly moor in Spain due to bad weather, which is when the drugs were discovered.

Later Cadiz’s surveillance unit managed to track down the boat as it entered Andlasuian waters, following a tip-off from a British source.

Investigations were run by the international cooperation against drug trafficking through the Centre for Maritime Analysis and Operations on Drug Trafficking (MAOC-N), a European Atlantic control body for suspicious vessels.

Before the drugs were seized there were multiple suspicious items found on the vessel such as burlap, a commonly used material for drug trafficking.

Following the incident, the case remains open as officials have not ruled out making further arrests.

Spanish security services worked in conjunction with the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency and Spanish Customs Surveillance.
