Rabat – After a search operation that lasted several hours, a young teacher who had gone missing in the Midelt region has been found alive, converging media reports indicate.
The teacher went missing on Sunday morning in the town of Tounfite in the Midelt province, after he left on a mountaineering trip. He has been taken to the regional Midelt hospital to receive the necessary care.
Authorities said that the teacher was found with fractures in his arms and legs, as well as cranial injuries that resulted from a slip and fall in the dangerous mountainous area.
The teacher was able to stay alive for two days despite dangerously cold weather and his injuries thanks to his fitness and regular exercise, 2M quoted regional authorities as saying.
Reports indicate that the teacher fell from a distance of 10 meters and fell on his head, causing him to lose consciousness. Despite regaining consciousness, the victim was not able to move due to his injuries and the lack of cell phone coverage in the area made it impossible to contact emergency services or family and friends.
Despite being found at 2AM on Tuesday by two volunteers, the danger of the surrounding terrain meant that they were not able to get into contact with emergency services until an hour later, after which they were dispatched to rescue the teacher.
The 27 year old philosophy teacher is reported as leading an athletic lifestyle, with sources describing him as being used to going on hiking trips such as this one.
