Rabat – The 17-year-old French-Moroccan football player Elisse Ben Seghir stood out yesterday during his first League 1 appearance with AS Monaco, scoring a stunning brace that helped his club narrowly win its game against AJ Auxerre.
In a statement titled “AS Monaco make a big comeback thanks to Ben Seghir,” the club described the young footballer’s talents as the highlight of yesterday’s match, which ended with AS Monaco clinching a 3-2 victory.
Commenting on his teammate’s performance, Monaco defender Malang Sar said: “ I am absolutely not surprised. He is a player who is not afraid to try and who takes responsibility.”
Sarr stressed that Ben Seghir’s skills and performance are extremely “impressive” given his young age, adding: “We are very happy to have a youngster like that because with this talent he has he can get us out of difficult situations like tonight.”
As the first half of yesterday’s match ended with a 1-1 tie, Monaco’s head coach Philippe Clement made three changes, including granting the young footballer his first Ligue 1 appearance, which soon paid off, noted the club’s statement.

Ben Seghir caught the attention of football fans and international media for his spectacular performance, with sports channel BT Sport describing him as “the next Kylian Mbappe.
Meanwhile, American news outlet CNN said: “There are league debuts, and then there are league debuts à la Eliesse Ben Seghir.”
After last night’s game, Seghir became the second youngest player to score a brace for AS Monaco in Ligue 1, after Thierry Henry did so in 1995 during a game against RC Lens, according to British sports analytics company Opta.
Originally from Morocco, Ben Seghir was born in France and is a youth product of AS Monaco’s academy. His professional journey began after signing with his current team last August.
