Rabat – Widely circulated videos show players from the Moroccan national football team dancing and enjoying their homecoming alongside their mothers after the historic welcome ceremony they received on Tuesday.

Earlier that day, King Mohammed VI hosted the Moroccan national football team for a royal reception at the Royal palace in Rabat in recognition and celebration of their historic heroics at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Mothers of the Moroccan players were also present at the reception, as the monarch insisted on including them in the royal event. In addition, the King offered royal wissams (medals) to the players, head coach Walid Regragui, and President of the Royal Federation of Football Fouzi Lekjaa.

The national football team and their mothers were then treated to a fancy dinner at the Sofitel hotel in Rabat, where they enjoyed an evening with traditional Moroccan music called chaabi.

Prior to the reception, the Atlas Lions arrived at the Rabat-Sale international airport and began their tour across the streets of Sale and Rabat in an open-top bus.

The Moroccan squad arrived to a warm and loving welcome from thousands of fans, who wildly celebrated the World Cup heroes’ return home. Donning Moroccan jerseys and waving the country’s flag, the supporters were lined up across the streets of the two cities, eagerly waiting to meet the Atlas Lions.

The heartfelt welcome ceremony comes as the Atlas Lions achieved the unexpected at the Qatar World Cup, becoming the first Arab and African nation to reach the tournament’s semi-final and beating some of the top teams in the world.

The Moroccan squad finished fourth at the World Cup, a milestone that was widely celebrated in Africa and the Arab world. Morocco’s World Cup achievements made international headlines and garnered the admiration of football fans across the world.
